What is a Thermo Scientific Precious Metals Analyzer?
The Thermo Scientific Nitron XRF Precious Metals Analyzer is the latest non-destructive technology that accurately reports on the quality of gold, silver, platinum we test. This process takes seconds and the advantage to our customers is that you get paid for the gold, Platinum or silver you have.
Many times gold jewellery will be stamped, for example, 22carat gold but is actually 23carat or even 24 carat. This can apply to all levels of gold caratage. The result of this testing is that you can be paid more for your jewellery.

How much will I be paid?
Gold is an international commodity and it is impossible to quote prices, not only does the price vary on a daily basis but the value of the Australian Dollar is also instrumental in the final worth of gold on the Australian market.
You must also consider that the total weight of your jewellery is not all gold. For example your 9ct gold is 37.5% gold, your 14ct gold is 58.3% gold, your 18ct gold is 75% gold, the rest of the weight is made up of alloys, and the weight of any set stones must also be considered. 22ct and 24ct gold pay more due to the higher gold content.
Please Note: We check each piece of jewellery and determine the quality of the gold and pay accordingly. It has come to our attention, through customers, that at some of the gold parties, mistakes have been made in determining what gold you have. For example, paying 9ct price for 10ct or even in one case, 18ct gold.

How do I know what type of gold, platinum or silver I have?
Pure gold is 24carat and many countries use pure gold, or 22ct for their jewellery, but generally speaking the Australian market prefers the look of gold mixed with alloys. This process is quite regulated and your jewellery should have a stamp mark indicating the gold content.
For example: (If your jewellery is not stamped we can test and confirm the gold content)
9ct gold is stamped either 9ct, 9k, 375.
10ct gold is stamped either 10ct, 10k, 416.
14ct gold is stamped either 14ct, 14k, 585.
18ct gold is stamped either 18ct, 18k, 750
21/22/23/24 Carat gold quite often will not have a stamp mark, but we can test this jewellery and confirm the gold content. (No damage to your jewellery)
Jewellery marked with GF, GP, or RG are gold plated and have no value.
Jewellery marked with 9ct/StgSil, 9k/925 or variations mean that you have a 9ct gold sleeve with silver inside; this can apply to chains, bracelets and bangles. We do not buy these. Also there are some 9ct pieces with copper inside in lieu of silver.
How many grams to an ounce and how do I weigh my jewellery?
There are 31.37 grams to an ounce. You do not need to weigh your jewellery to send it to us, but if you wish to do so, kitchen scales can be accurate enough or visit the Post Office/Butchers and they can weigh it for you.
What if I send goods that are not of any value?
It is our policy to return these goods to you as soon as is possible.
What if my jewellery has any set stones?
You can visit you local jeweller and have them removed, but this can be expensive. It is best to send them to us and we can appraise each piece on its merits, if your stone set jewellery is in good condition, or can be repaired by us, very often we will pay a little more for it.
Do you pay for Gem Stones?
Normally we do not pay for gem stones, however, each piece is appraised individually and any stones that are recoverable, especially Diamonds, we will pay wholesale price for them.
Do you buy unwanted jewellery for resale?
Yes. We have a very strong Second Hand Jewellery business and we are always looking for stock. It is best to contact us via email or phone and discuss the process. What we do need first off is a good description, perhaps a Valuation or the original Retailers invoice can help with these details, and if possible a photograph.
Do I need to clean my jewellery before I send it to you?
No. This is not necessary at all.
Do we purchase gold teeth fillings?
Yes we do. Gold fillings can range from 24ct down to 9ct, and of course we test the gold to verify this quality. We very often receive gold inlaid dentures, so if you do send these to us we do have to remove the gold and the teeth are destroyed in this process.
Gold Parties are great! But don't sell your gold for less than it is really worth!
After numerous telephone calls from ladies attending various Gold Parties, actually calling from the party itself, Citigold has decided to remind party goers to be well satisfied that they are receiving a good rate for their gold jewellery, and especially, that they are being paid for the correct type of gold.
Several of the phone calls received were from ladies at various gold parties and they expressed concern and confusion over offers being made. Firstly that their 18ct and 14ct gold was being appraised as only 9ct gold, and secondly, that the price was not very interesting, in fact quite low. There is nothing new of course with folk thinking that their gold is worth more, but our advise is to check around first, sometimes the hype of the party takes your mind off the facts.
If you let us know the weight of gold you have, (kitchen scales or the post office is fine for this) the type of gold you have, then we can give you a quote either by email or telephone.
Now determining the type of gold you have is a little more detailed. Most western made jewellery will have stamp marks somewhere on the piece of jewellery. If you find 750, 18ct, 18k on your jewellery then you have 18ct gold, which means that your jewellery is made up of 75% pure gold, and the remainder are alloys to give it strength. The same story applies for 14ct gold, you will find 585, 14ct, 14k which is 58.5% gold content, 9ct gold is identified as 375, 9ct, 9k which is 37.5% gold content. Regardless of stamp marks we always check our gold purchases to be sure.
We do offer advice concerning your jewellery, from what it might be worth... to...can it be repaired. Naturally there are some pieces we just have to see but normally we can give you something to help you make a decision. You are most welcome to email or phone us.
